Terms and Conditions for the Alfred Website and Software

By using the websites owned by Running with Crayons Ltd (including alfredapp.com, alfred.app and alfredforum.com), you agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy below. We aim to keep our terms clear and simple, so please read them carefully.

  1. Liability Limitations

This software is provided by Running with Crayons Ltd on an "as is" basis. In no event shall the copyright holder be liable for any direct or indirect damages, including but not limited to any loss of data or computer failure, arising out of the use or inability to use the software.

To put it simply, we do our best to make Alfred a great application to use, but cannot guarantee that it will always be entirely without its quirks, as is the case with any software.

  2. Using the Alfred Software

The core version of Alfred is distributed for free and can be used in a personal, educational or business environment.

You may not redistribute or modify the software without permission from Running with Crayons Ltd. The copyright holder retains all rights over the software, and no third-party or agency is entitled to sell, modify or repackage the software without prior consent and written permission from the copyright holder.

  3. Your Powerpack License Purchase

The license you purchase for the software must be purchased under the end user's own email address and is non-transferable. Single User and Mega Supporter licenses are for individual use only, and licenses should not be shared or redistributed.

Running with Crayons Ltd reserves the right to terminate licenses which are abused; We ask you to respect the terms of the license type you choose by not sharing the key that was issued for you, and to contact us on with any license-related issues you encounter.

Purchasing a Powerpack license entitles you to a license key which unlocks the Powerpack features in the version(s) of Alfred relevant to the license type you selected during checkout. While we provide user support via various channels, we reserve the right to limit support for users who make unreasonable requests or require support beyond the scope of Alfred's features, such as user-specific macOS issues. We also reserve the right to refuse support for users who are abusive or threatening to our support team.

As the Alfred core is freely available to use without time limits, we cannot offer a refund for Powerpack purchases on the basis of non-compatibility with either your Mac or yourself. Alfred offers support for 10.14+ Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. We strongly recommend checking for compatibility by installing the free version ahead of purchase.

Refunds cannot be offered on selecting the wrong license type, so take a look at the license types before making your selection.

  4. Resellers

We do not use any resellers for personal licenses, and any third-party claiming to sell Alfred Powerpack licenses should be reported to so that we can investigate further.

Resellers working on behalf of corporate customers should consult the Purchasing Licenses as a Reseller page before making a purchase on behalf of a customer, and familiarise themselves with the terms of purchase.

  5. Third Party Sites and Workflows

Third Party sites containing Alfred workflows are user-created websites where Alfred users can find and share their favourite workflows. These sites are owned and managed by their respective owners. While we may link to and encourage the development and growth of these sites, we do not manage or maintain these websites, and accept no liability for content hosted on these websites.

  6. About the Terms of Use

These terms and conditions may be altered and amended within reason from time to time to reflect the evolving nature of the software.

By using the software, you agree that you have read, understood, and will comply with these terms and conditions.

Privacy Policy

  1. Your Personal Information

We take your privacy seriously and, when you provide us with any personal information, we endeavour to keep it safe. We've outlined below what data we store and how we store it.

  2. When Using Our Website

We hold and retain very minimal information when you visit our website; To help us understand how we can make the Alfred website better for you, we use a Google Analytics code on alfredapp.com, as well as on our blog and support pages. Google Analytics will use cookies, provided this feature is enabled in your browser.

This information is anonymous and does not provide us with identifiable information, but helps us ensure that our support pages answer all of the most popular questions as clearly as possible, for example.

  3. When Purchasing a Powerpack License

When you purchase a Powerpack license, you will provide us with basic information, which is used for issuing your license details, as well as for fraud detection.

We don't process or retain transactional information, and leave this to the experts. All purchases are processed using the Paddle.com platform, so your card statement will show "PADDLE.NET * ALFRED" as the purchase reference. Paddle is PCI DSS SAQ A and GDPR compliant, and have your data security at heart.

Once your transaction is complete, we securely retain the following information: Your name, the email address you used to register your Powerpack license, your selected country, transaction ID, license type, and whether you have chosen to receive our newsletter. Your privacy is safe by nature, as we only hold a minimum of information.

  4. Your Alfred Preferences Data

Alfred only contacts our server when activating your Powerpack license in order to validate it, as well as periodically checking for new software updates. You can disable the software update check in the Update preferences, but we recommend keeping this enabled to ensure that you always have the latest version for security reasons and to make the most of the awesome new features!

When you customise your Alfred preferences, this information is stored locally on your Mac. Your preferences, usage and settings are yours; This data is not sent to us or to any third parties, and we do not have access to it.

Powerpack users can choose to sync this data via Dropbox or a similar cloud-based service, in which case their preferences will be stored by the sync service. As we do not retain your preferences data, it is your responsibility to ensure it is backed up in a reliable way that meets your own needs (e.g. Time Machine).

  5. Your Alfred Workflows

Alfred runs at a user-level (non-administrator) process on your Mac, and lower-level access (such as Accessibility for text expansion) is isolated as a separate process for security. As such, installing a workflow is no different to installing any piece of software on your Mac; We recommend sourcing workflows from popular sources like our forum or public GitHub repositories.

Alfred workflows may require contact with a server or API in order to present you with results. If you have any questions about the behaviour of workflows or how it uses your data, contact the workflow creator or pop a question on Alfred Forum where community members will help you understand the workflow in more details.

  6. Publication of Comments

When we receive positive feedback from our users, we like to share it with others, and may use comments we've received by email, Twitter or other communication medium for the promotion of the software. We'll never show your email address, will never use your comments out of context, and will respect your privacy if you ask us not to disclose your name in association with the feedback.

  7. Email Newsletters

We use a trusted email sender, Campaign Monitor, to send our email newsletters, and you can find their privacy policy here.

The email address and related data you provide by subscribing to our newsletter is stored securely, and is not sold or shared with any third parties.

These terms were last updated on 10th November 2021. We love our community and want you to enjoy your experience using Alfred, so if you have any questions about our privacy policy or terms of use, please contact us on .
